Honoring Mulugeta Seraw: Remember. Learn. Change.

The Urban League of Portland in partnership with other community-based organizations and the City of Portland, is spearheading a project to honor Mulugeta Seraw (Mo͞o-lo͞o-ɡāt-ah sə-rou), 28-year old Ethiopian college student living in Portland, Oregon who was murdered by racist skinheads outside of his apartment on November 13, 1988.  Join us for a half-day conference on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 – the 30th anniversary of Mulugeta’s death to learn more about the history of anti-Black violence in Oregon and what steps we as community can take to address that.

The conference will include panel discussions, Continuing Legal Education(CLE) for attorneys, and community training on addressing hate. Mulugeta’s family members, friends, and the attorneys who litigated and won the case against the White Aryan Resistance (WAR) will be among those speaking at this half-day conference.
